REAL Worship

I was scanning through church websites.  I do that these days.  It only makes sense to see what other successful churches are doing, since we are starting a new work in Oldham County.

I have to say...there are some pretty impressive churches out there.

On one site, I noticed an area marked "Careers" which peaked my interest tremendously.  I mean, that has to be a successful church if they have their own job board.  I want to know a bit about what they do and how they do it.  I would love to see what it takes to get to the point where we have a church job board.

I clicked.

Wow!  Design Assistants.  Administrative Executives.  Service Producers.  This is a big time operation.  It's pretty amazing.  I clicked further on the link that was seeking members for the Worship Team...and there it was.  The word that I despise was sitting just in front of me.

"Auditions" open now!

Listen, it's pretty good that a church has so many people that want to participate that they have to hold auditions.  I mean, congratulations on that.  But, it reminds me why Oldham County needs a church that values "REAL".

You see, I was a music major in college.  I sang in competitions and did the tours with the band.  I know a thing or two about auditions.  And Rule #1 in an audition is...give the judges what they want.  There is a reason that American Idol is so boring these days.  After enough times on the show, everyone knows exactly what it takes to get through the auditions to the main stage.  And that is BORING!

I believe that worship should be done with excellence.  If a person can't sing, they probably shouldn't be leading the singing.  I get all that.

Worship should also not be bland.  A REAL person that someone has spent REAL time with should get up there and lead all the other REAL people to a place of genuine worship.  Auditions help you find talented people.

I'm not looking for talented.  I'm looking for genuine.  We can work on the talent piece.

If you are someone (or know someone) that might be interested in being a part of a worship team, we are building one now.  Yes, we would love for you to be able to actually play the instrument you wish to play.  But more than that, we would love to meet you and get to know you.  Swing by one of our preliminary Sunday meetings (they are at 11 AM) or check out one of our Preview services...and introduce yourself.

"Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in the Spirit and in truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks.  God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in the Spirit and in truth.” - Luke 4:23-24
